Make a stand!

If you went to last years AGM then you will know about kurtis638, if not then make a call to Andy Everett or Tim Kirker. I do think that after the White Shadow rip off by we all know who, that we need to weed out the **** from this forum & the club. If you are happy to sell you Vincent to someone that will just rip it apart and put the bits on ebay then that is up to you but some of us would rather see them bought by people who will use them for what they were built for.
This is my own personal view so if you think that I am out of order for saying this then just let me know.
Russell Kemp.

I'm with you on that one Russell.
I would like to think that our machines are being used and enjoyed long after we are all dead and buried. But if they only ever get sold to those with the deepest pockets, they will inevitably all end up in the private collections of wealthy individuals and never get to see the light of day, let alone the open road.
I see myself as the short term custodian of a small piece of history, as is any other owner of a historic or vintage item, be it a bike, car, house, painting whatever. To allow that piece of history to be broken up or lost in any way for financial gain is dubious at best and would mean I had failed in my roll as custodian in the worst possible way. I accept that their value can't be ignored, but I suspect that a significant proportion of Vincent owners have had their steeds for a good number of years and paid nothing like their current market value.
This is a personal view and I am not in any way suggesting that anyone on this forum has, or is even contemplating such a thing. If my opinion has offended anyone, I apologise, but as a friend of mine used to say, "my opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it". ;)

Paul

PS I don't know about the "White Shadow rip off". Am I missing something?

I'm stuck - who was it.....

The White Shadow "rip off".

In MPH the editor printed the letter from Roy about what had happened to him, I for one think that two things should happen:

1 - Name the guy - I've just re-joined the club and "you know who" does not work for me, I don't know who, but I would like to so that, if it is even part true, I can avoid being in his company.

2 - Right of reply - there are always two sides to every story - we've read 90% of one (name missing) but haven't had the opportunity to hear the other side - I'd like to hear what he has to say!

That done, we can all make our own minds up about what we have read and decide what/what not to do as a result.

So who was it?............

Cheers

The letter published in MPH 701 from Roy Walton relating to the sale of his White Shadow was published exactly as written. No attempt to hide the identity of the purchaser was made by me or the Vincent H.R.D. Owners Club.

Roy's failure to name the individual appears to be intentional, but had he named an individual, I would have had no hesitation in publishing it.

I have yet to receive a response from anyone claiming to be the purchaser of the White Shadow, but if they do, I will consider it for publication.

As always, please feel free to write into MPH with anything you would like considered for publication regarding this subject. I have already received a number of letters on this subject for inclusion in MPH 702.

Understandably, this topic has stirred up may emotions and opinions, so If you think the Club needs to take any action, your first point of call should be your Section Organiser who can act on your behalf at the next General Committee Meeting on Sunday 9th September.

Hi Graham

Hi Graham,

You'll recall that one of the e-mails you had on the subject was from me, hopefully for MPH - I made the same two points I have done here on the subject.

My request to know who was aimed at this thread, which seems to suggest that some members know who it is, but newer folks like me are still in the dark.

Cheers

What's It Worth ?

Having Read All The Above Comments I Tend To Agree With The General Consensus Of Opinion Regarding The 'white Shadow Saga'.
I Was In A Similar Position Last Year When I Was Offered A Genuine
Shadow Engine For Peanuts[relativley].
I Was Given The Chance Because The Guy Knew That I Would Not Speculate On It But Rebuild It , Ride And Enjoy It.
Since I Advertised For A Rolling Chassis [which I Have Now Aquired]
I Have Been Offered 3 Times By Different People Over £15k

I Have Not Accepted Any Offers For A Couple Of Reasons
1; Where Will I Get Another One?
2;i Was Sold The Engine In Good Faith And I Feel I Have A Moral
Responsibility To Ride The Bike As I Said I Would

I Am Not Joan Of Arc Walking The Moral High Ground But I Feel
That People Like The Guy Who Conned The Previous Owner Should
Be Named And Shamed
I Would Like To Know His Name So If I Ever Come Across Him I Can Walk Away Knowing He Would Not Get The Steam Of My S***e

Regards

Mick

I personaly hope this "well known" individual is named and shamed although I would imagine that he wouldn't be too bothered about the shamed bit, I would not like to think that I was in this persons company if I had the misfortune to be at a rally he was attending:mad:

I would say easily £13-15k , probably more as they're escalating in value all the time at the moment. For a time in recent years it was my oppinion that Vincents were undervalued in comparison to other classic bikes , Goldies were hitting £12k , early Bonnies £10k & more and Vincents were around the same !! I was convinced they would suddenly shoot up in price and they have ! If you can generate a good offer from a club member on here then that would be great , but my advice otherwise would be ebay !! Worldwide marketing you see !!
