New threads will not work on my computer, Sir Stirling Moss in 1948 borrowed a Cooper Vincent and tried it out at Finmere Airfield near his home, his father ordered a Engine from Vincents he could not wait so bought a V twin JAP instead

Moss stories
Stirling Mosse's farm was in Tring and when I was a Ton Up:eek: we would wait in Chesham for his sister Pat Moss Carleson to come home on a Saturday night in her white Saab then we would chase her up Chesham vale road on our bikes (we knew that twisty road like the back of our hands) we never got past that old two stroke car but then she never shook us off either and she was trying
.
About 3 years ago my friend rebuilt a AH Sprite that SM used to race (rally) SM turned up at Goodwood to ride round in it, he came up to the car with his stick, he said he liked the rebuild, sat in the car liked the driving position hit the horn-silence, my friend said he never bothered with a race car SM said "well I need it how else can I get someone in front to move over?"

David. It was a long time ago but looking at the programme for the day and stirring what memory cells I have left, it COULD be John Turner. Then from Brocton, Staffs.

Before Stirling Moss took up motor racing he was riding horses. I have a program from a B.S.J.A. meet at White City Stadium in 1945 where he and Pat took part, along with my mother. The pony "Brandy" that Pat rode was bought, initially for Stirling, from my grandfather with a proviso from Mrs Moss that it should be easy to ride as Stirling was a quiet lad. My aunt was none too pleased as Brandy was her favourite pony! Cheers, Stu.

The Winterbottom car was bought by a English army Major Stafford, who then went and joined the NZ army taking the car with him he is buried in the Lake Taupo cemetery, the half thousand engine must still be in NZ there is no reason why it could not have been up to a twin engine again.
