Hi, I've read Know thy Beast but wanted to check how to do this job before I start dismantling. The speedo is running erratically on a newly restored machine and I've checked everything else.
I've undone the two screws holding the unit to the brake plate, removed the split pin holding the gear wheel on and removed the second split pin through the two sides of the bottom casing.
Now examining it I wonder how it next comes apart to be able to clean properly, lubricate and re-build.
The two pieces internal to the casing have notches in them as if you could, wth a special tool, insert and rotate them to take them out. Know Thy Beast seems to suggest you drift the shaft out from the other side.
Which is right?
Then there is the female section of the spade assembly - do you drift that out or does it come out the other end?
Advice gratefully received?
Thanks
Stuart
