G39AS Crankcase Assembly Sadness

After feeling pretty happy with all my work so far I decided to assemble the gearbox before finishing off the top end assembly. Digging in the parts I've discovered G39AS, and it's not in the crankcases but with the gearbox parts.
Grumpily looking through the instruction sheets I can find no mention of ensuring this is fitted before joining the crankcase halves.

Looks like I am going to be separating the cases again unless someone knows a way if fitting it by magic...
Bugger...

It might be little compensation now but it this kind of pain which means that you are learning. You can be pretty sure that you will not do it again and NO, there is no way around splitting the cases again.

No its not mentioned much, except Richardson (I hope you have a copy) mentions spliting the crankcases to replace it. KTB (I hope you have a copy) recomends leaving out the assembly spring that is fitted on it I certainly never bother with the little s*d, a ring spanner on the indicator nut keeps the bevel firmly in position when sliding the gears in.

G'day Steve,
If it any consolation that is the first mistake I made when assembling my engine the first time. As TT says, I never made that mistake again. Now forty years later I still put a red paint mark around the boss in the crankcase when its open just to remind me because I have a forgetful memory.

I left mine out on purpose. As Vibrac says a spanner on the ratchet shaft does the trick. Once the 'box is built it is of no further use.

Thanks for the encouragement...
It's back together, although not quite so far along as before. Gearbox next.
