That's what I'm going to try, I don't want to alter the ones I have and will probably make some with more drop, they did make some by the way, they're the rear ones with more offset to clear the panniers, when fitted to the front will give more drop.
Just remembered a friend has a pair, I shall have to see if I can borrow them to try.
Now you have said that I think I have seen some, well one anyway perhaps it was even in my sub store...! (disappears stage left with torch and overcoat)

While that will lower the footrest it also has the effect of moving the rubber outwards by about the same amount.

Instead of a kink the footpiece bends out and, as a pillion rest, the extension runs forwards before bending out to the peg that carries the rubber. This seems to set the rubber away from the pivot by more than the thickness of the extension.
On twin footrest hangers they hang down with its whole thickness outboard of the line of the hanger. It then bends out at 90 degrees. I think that mine have a little knob on the underside to prevent the rubber from being pushed hard against the now upright footpiece. The other problem is that the footbrake pivot now falls above the line of the footrest. They do end up about the same length as Comet footrests but if hung on a Comet definitely end up too wide.

Ah right, I only saw them briefly a couple of years ago, I shall just have to make some then without any offset, I could easily make a different shaped brake pedal to match.

I have just been out into the cold garage and roughly measures mine. Complete with rubbers the standard foot rest are about 5 1/2" the pillion footrests stick out about 6 3/4" with the crank about 2 1/2". I repeat this is a very rough measurement due to dismal lighting and trembling fingers.

I have bitten the bullet and following Hadronuk's advice on damper and springs I have purchased an AVO coil over unit for the rear end. To complete the exercise and keep the seat height to a minimum (I hate tall bikes) I will jack up the rear end with unit sans spring and close full bump mudguard to seat (fully sprung) to a finger of space. To assist that I have decided to lower the alloy guards as befits the 18" wheels (originally fitted to accommodate the trials tyres when I had the Trials sidecar on the Comet) and that will also have a double benefit of reducing the unsightly space between tyre and guard (front and back) of course that's not just a case of shortening the stays you also need to reduce the curvature of the mudguard fortunately there is some good advice on how to do that on the Vincent Spares web site http://new.vincentspares.co.uk/tech.html the guards are a bit battered as well so its time to cadge some time on my car mates English wheel.
Interesting bit in MPH this month, Dai Davies says AVO do a special shorter rear Coilover for the Comet Because the wheel base on the Comet is about 1/2" shorter than a Twin, Always thought it, But never got round to checking.
I have shortened the wheel base on my "D" Comet "hobby horse workshop frame ", To get it nearer what it should be, And the rear "D" spring unit does not look right to me !, The spring angle looks not steep enough, I did run a "D" Comet before, But that was with Norton forks and the steering felt QUICK ! ( Trail ? ), I wonder if I should make the F106 a little taller. Cheers Bill.

Dont bump them hard to the end, take the smooooooth roads.:rolleyes:

Mike Breeding's Comet foot rests. Work well but I had to gob together a longer FT103 as the foot rests hang lower than the stock ones.
