Black Prince/Knight - the first sport tourer?

Built for "gentlemens´ high speed touring" was the characterization of the enclosed D´s. Not against that, I believe they were sport tourers, long time before the word was coined. High performance, some weather protection, riding position slightly bent forward are some typical features. What do you think?.

Sport tourers

Yes, that definatly describes the machine, pity this phrase was not dreamed up at the time of production.

Park a Pan European next to a Prince or Knight and you can see a father/son or maybe grandfather/son connection.
I have a picture somewhere of my Pan and Dick Perry's D I'll look it out and ask Graham to post it.

Sport touers

I'm not sure the tag would have helped. They were launched on a market thirsty for light, cheap, fast twins. They are, by contrast, very-very-fast scooters... with the same rear, and bar mounted fairing.

But: they are great fun to ride, and surely the most dramatic Vincent to follow at speed.

Series D spares

Is there any Prince or Knight owner out there can help me locate SL17 & SL18? These are the circular plates for the lighting switch and ammeter. Even ropey ones would do so that copies can be made. Thanks, Len.

Yes, dramatic to follow in the sense that watching someone else oscillating from side to side, and struggling to remain in control of an aerodynamic nightmare is dramatic....:eek:

Aerodynamic nightmare?

I have ridden an enclosed D 25000 km over the last years, sometimes in bad weather and hard winds from the sea, and have not experienced any problems that can be related to aerodynamics.:D

Actually, a fast ride today in the surroundings, with this particularly in mind, in nice but windy weather, did not disclose anything unsupposed.

In a recent MPH someone expressed the opinion that all Vincents before the enclosed D´s were prototypes to the latter...
