My father had a Quickly in the 50s (not a Vin unfortunately). Since it was the only family transport he fitted a dual seat and footrests. Almost every time we went out, a cop would flag us down and say " You do realise it's illegal to carry a passenger without a ....... errrr ........ proper seat and ......... errrrr ......... footrests. Well, I've never seen one of those before, off you go." A short time after, NSU brought out the dual seat version. :)

Can you imagine a cop stopping you today like that, half of them would think a 'dual seat' was a malformation of your back side. and would be far to busy checking the ANPR or the speed gun

Yes two towns I keep well clear of Oxford and Cambridge what is it about university types that make them hate motor transport? it was not that way prewar when they were at the forefront of motor sport

The short answer is, it is currently one of the "in things" to be. What I find distressing is the overall umbrella in thing is to be negative about just about everything that was considered "cool" by previous generations, regardless.

You only have to see TV car adverts to understand how anti motor transport the world is I cannot belive that none of them mention performance, economy, cornering storage space and above all actual price infact all the things you should need to know, instead they show how connected to the internet they are how big the distracting screen in the dash is, the groovy people who buy the tin box and frankly anything except the car itself, how strange.
Of couse apart from Honda's" You meet the nicest people etc" no motorcycle maker has ever extolled freedom easy parking missing jams and economy to the general public so we cannot talk.
