Forum: New Feature???

Here's something for everyone to think about - I'm thinking of adding a yet another new feature to the forum...

It will basically be an add-on module similar to the Photo Posting that everyone's now enjoying.

Rather than PhotoPost, it'll be called ReviewPost.

When you go into it, there'll be a number of categories, and these categories will contain every single part for post-war, and eventually pre-war bikes. Similar to the sort of thing you'd expect to find on The VOC Spares Company Ltd. or the VinParts website.

In time, there will be photographs of every part, but the key is, everyone will have the option to post comments against each and every single part on a vincent. These comments could be as simple as letting other members know about how to say restore a particular item, or what the fit was like from a new part purchased from the VOC Spares Company Ltd or VinParts etc. It WOULDN'T be used as a platform to complain about a particular company's item, but as and when suppliers are ordering new stock, they could look at the 'ReviewPost' to see what their customers are saying about the parts they supply, and if they think any adjustments are necessary.

It could also be useful for members if they're having trouble with a particular part, then they could just log-on to see if anyone else has had a similar experience and to find out what the solution was.

I look forward to hearing any thoughts or suggestions you might have...

Graham,

Great idea, it could also then have people's mod's included and details of good suppliers for parts that have been used before, Tippers (or not) for plates, Charlies Tyres for Tyres, Demon Tweeks for little black mirrors etc etc. All with a photo would be most helpful. Additionally, I understand from some members I have been chatting to that there are sometimes differences between parts from the Spares Co. and Vinparts for instance - an example I have been shown is a non-locking fixing mechanism for the tool tray - both are stainless steel but the Spares Co. (in this one case) is, in my view, superior to the Vinparts one in that it has a domed head finish and comes highly polished - the Vinparts one is more flat headed and unpolished stainless.

Equally there will be loads of examples in each direction, and on top in the comments we could add about the service - for instance Russ has turnd down a Pivot Bearing Spindle for me and posted by return to get the bike back on the road for Mallory Park.

I think it is a great idea and would build a super database.

Hi Stuart,
As I do not do anything to hold or lock the tool tray in place other than the std spring clip on the tool tray I would be interested to know more about what it was that you had seen.

Hi Russ,

It was a knurled knob with an "L" shaped bracket - the bracket screws to the underside of the bike seat and the knurled know fits to the tool tray and you simply thumb screw it tight to the bracket. I was shown two pieces and told that the chap had bought one from you - apologies if this is inaccurate (the parts may be a couple of years old though).

Cheers

If you have a 'B' then an old honda fifly tool box knob will mimic the Brampton knob and hold the tool tray in
