Recently I had occasion to borrow the dust cap from the front tyre of my outfit in order to remove the valve core from another tyre.I forgot to put it back. Next day the outfit's front tyre was flat. This shows how important it is to use proper metal dust caps and not the little plastic ones that come with a new tube.Clearly the valve core in the outfit's tyre was faulty and the cap alone prevented air loss.
