I need to acquire several cylinder head brackets, FT3s etc. , and am looking into getting some cast and machined. They would be heat treated to bring them up to a sensible strength. If anyone else out there has a potential interest in some of these then please contact me and once I know the number I can quote prices. Either on the forum, a PM or email to enw07@btinternet.com Thank you.

What material will you choose ? I am going to design these in aluminium, don´t like the combination alu/steel in a very hot place when you want a good fit for sort of frame member tasks. Also I will do away of the big nuts holding the head. I will have a much more massive FT 3 spigoted to the heads and only four nuts in total. That should achieve a more solid engine/frame unit. I don´t see the point why the FT3 had to be a separate part as it can be assembled when you put on the head and it stays there for good. So most likely your project will not fit my ideas ?

Vic, I'm not quite sure what you suggest. Can you produce a rough sketch? I already have access to the pattern for this casting so I'm not sure how much it could be modified. At the moment I am thinking about steering heads.

No, sorry, no sketch yet. But I was thinking at the head brackets FT 3 in aluminium, a lot thicker at the bottom to do away with the long head nuts. So I am not a prospective customer to your parts I guess ?

Norman,
I'd like two pairs (4) please. I already use Head Nuts made from 7075 aluminium so these will be a further improvement weight-wise for me. Presumably you will be doing some in slotted and some solid?
Heat-treated LM25 is fine for most automotive things; but it would be nice if somebody had a CAD programme to make these from solid 7075 billet....(?).

Hello Vic, It is not a problem if you are not a potential customer. I was interested in what you had in mind rather than trying to sell you something. From your description it sounded as though you intended to make the base of the new head lugs about 25 -30 mm thick to take up the space of the normal head nuts. That does not sound right, ugly, difficult to get to the spark plugs, heavy etc. So I was just wondering if you had found a way round these problems.

Yes, you are right, I am aiming to do away the long nuts under the lug and position it directly on the head, that I feel, will give a more rigid engine unit that doubles as a frame member. I am not yet in the definite design stage but think to add a few "fins" and adjust thicknesses as required so in the end it will look acceptable. Are you going to have aluminium castings or steel (heavy!!) as original ?

Just for general info, Patrick Godet uses aluminum lugs also.
