First of all it should be a KVF as a K2F is for a parallel twin!

Lock the ATD at full advance

Set the crank at 34 deg BTDC on the rear (No1) cylinder)

Set the points to be just opening at the physically lower opening point which should be at the end of the shorter gap and before the longer gap. Tap the ATD tight and tighten the nut.

Roll it through and check that it is opening at 34 and then see where the other one is.

Knock it loose and repeat if required.

I use very fine (Think very light) plastic bag strips in between the points although then can get electrostatic and be a bit of a bu%%$^ to get in the points.

I have read every thing I could get my hands on about Vincents and rode my first Vincent before I had past the test to have a driving licence at the age of 17 doing well above the legal speed limit at the time on a 1955 Black Knight and this is my first Vincent I now own (inherted) and have rebuilt the final drive last year and would like to get the bike sorted for this year as next winter the heads are coming off for a over due overhaul and repair. and the timing chest needs looking at and sort out the lack of threads in the crankcases

I have a spark plug smashed apart and then threaded to take a 3/8" bolt. I drilled a hole in it to let the air out of the cylinder. I set this tool using a degree wheel so that it will lock my engine at 34 degrees BTDC. Then I loctited it and marked it V34 so I would remember this was for my Vincent and it is 34 degrees. It is a really handy tool to have. I have one for my Goldstar as well.
